GAIT ANALYSIS AND BIOMECHANICAL ASSESSMENTS IN MATLOCK

Matlock Physiotherapy Centre Ltd Icon

At Matlock Physiotherapy Centre Ltd, we invite you in for gait analysis and biomechanical assessments if you are experiencing discomfort in your feet or lower limbs without a clear cause. It helps to know how your feet, lower limbs, and joints move when standing and walking to identify any factors contributing to pain or injury.

We examine your foot and lower limb in various positions, considering how they interact with your body as a whole. This comprehensive approach helps us understand how issues in one area may affect others and result in injury/pain. Based on the assessment findings, our podiatrists in Matlock provide personalised advice and treatment plans to address your specific needs. Contact us to learn more.

WHAT'S INVOLVED IN A BIOMECHANICAL ASSESSMENT?

During a biomechanical assessment, we examine the patient's sitting, standing, and movement patterns, both barefoot and while wearing shoes. This includes evaluating muscle strength, joint range of motion, and the alignment of the forefoot and rearfoot in relation to the leg. Gait analysis may also be conducted using video recording on a treadmill to assess walking patterns. Once we have a clear understanding of the entire kinetic chain based on the assessment findings, we will recommend appropriate treatment. The treatment plan may include an orthotic prescription or specific stretching and strengthening exercises.

ADVANTAGES OF A BIOMECHANICAL ASSESSMENT

A biomechanical assessment offers numerous benefits that can significantly impact your overall well-being and physical performance:

  • Pain reduction by addressing underlying issues or imbalances in foot and lower limb mechanics.

  • Improved posture as the assessment allows for targeted interventions to improve alignment.

  • Injury prevention as it helps identify potential risk factors for injury, such as overpronation or muscle imbalances.

  • Improved muscle strength through targeted exercises and interventions customised to your specific biomechanical needs.

  • More efficient gait, leading to smoother and more natural movement.

  • Increased range of motion flexibility in feet and limbs.
